Rongo

About Rongo
The Rongorongo script, or kohau rongo rongo, is a script characterized by pictograms or glyphs carved on wood, the translation of which is still uncertain. In Rapanui language, kohau means "wood used to build canoe hull" and rongo rongo means "great message" or "great study", so kohau rongo rongo has been translated as "recitation woods" or "recitation sticks".
In a time of environmental catastrophe, natural plunder, and social isolation, learning about and immersing ourselves in pre-Western ways of life could offer us a way to reshape the nature-culture pact that seems to be in decay.
The expression Rongo in Rapanui language precisely indicates a call, which the artist interprets as an alarm or invitation to return to the origin and listen to our ancestors.
„Te kii nei he rongo o te arero rapanui he kii rutu o te vi’e nei pahe nangananga etahi mo hoki ki te hakaaranga o tatou matamu’a”.
